WNBA: Liz Cambage helps Wings rout Sparks 101-72
PHOENIX (AP) Maya Moore scored 23 points and the Minnesota Lynx beat Phoenix 83-72 on Friday night to end the Mercury's eight-game winning streak.
Lindsay Whalen added 15 points for Minnesota (6-6), Seimone Augustus had 14, and Sylvia Fowles finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The defending champion Lynx have won three in a row after losing five of six.
Diana Taurasi scored 23 points for Phoenix (10-4), and Brittney Griner had 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Whalen scored six points during Minnesota's 12-4 opening run, and Moore hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 40-19 midway through the second quarter. Taurasi scored eight points, Sancho Lyttle converted a 3-point play and Briann January hit a 3-pointer during a 14-6 run that pulled Phoenix within eight with four minutes to play. But Rebekkah Brunson answered with a layup and, after a turnover by Taurasi, Fowles added a basket to make it 73-61 with three minutes left.
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Kayla McBride scored a season-high 27 points and rookie A'ja Wilson had her third consecutive double-double for Las Vegas.
Wilson finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks and McBride made 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
Wilson converted a 3-point play to give the Aces a 10-8 lead midway through the first quarter, and they never again trailed. New York (4-7) tied it three times in the fourth quarter before McBride scored 10 points in the final seven minutes to help Las Vegas pull away for good.
Tina Charles led New York with 14 points, Kia Nurse scored 13 and Amanda Zahui B. added 12 points - her most since scoring 15 in the season opener.
Aces coach Bill Laimbeer - who coached the Liberty from 2013-2017, including a trip to the 2015 Eastern Conference Finals - improved to 2-0 against his former team. Las Vegas won 78-63 at New York on June 13.
WINGS 101, SPARKS 72
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Liz Cambage scored 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting and Aerial Powers had 16 points and eight rebounds to help the Dallas Wings beat the Los Angeles Sparks 101-72 on Friday night.
Allisha Gray scored 15 points, Azura Stevens added 13 and Skylar Diggins-Smith, who finished with a season-low six points, had 11 assists - one shy of her career best set in 2014 - for Dallas (6-5).
Nneka Ogwumike led Los Angeles (9-3) with 17 points. The Sparks had won five in a row.
DREAM 75, SUN 70
ATLANTA (AP) - Angel McCoughtry scored 25 points, Layshia Clarendon hit two free throws with 9.4 seconds left and Atlanta overcame a 13-point second-half deficit to beat Connecticut.
Brittney Sykes scored 13 points, Damiris Dantas added 11, and Elizabeth Williams had 10 rebounds and three blocks for Atlanta (7-6). Alex Bentley (7-5) led the Sun with 18 points, and Chiney Ogwumike had 16.
MYSTICS 93, SKY 77
CHICAGO (AP) - Elena Delle Donne scored 22 of her 30 points in the first half in Washington's victory over Chicago.
Delle Donne added 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Kristi Tolliver scored 13 points - all in the first half - and Monique Currie added 11 for the Mystics (8-5).
Allie Quigley scored 21 points for Chicago (3-9). The Sky have lost six in a row.
STORM 72, FEVER 63.
SEATTLE (AP) - Jewell Loyd had 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting and Natasha Howard had 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks to help Seattle beat Indiana.
Breanna Stewart scored 15 points for the Storm (9-4).
Candice Dupree led Indiana (1-12) with 15 points.
